Back from the OC
Just got back from a long shopping/dining trip with my friend in OC...Mission Viejo. Actually she drove me all around who-knows-where, so I have no idea were we were at any one place in time. It's always fun spending time with her because of her energy and the crazy lifestyle she hasI still don't get what the deal is with $1k couture bags and high end dining. You wouldn't catch me spending that much on anything other than computer stuff or a digital camera. Anyway, regardless, she knows her food and she's super fun to talk to. We went to college together and we lived in the same off-campus apartment. In fact her apartment door was across from my bedroom window...which led to many really late night food fests, movie/anime watching, and lack of studying (booooo).
She always invites me over, but since it's so far from where I live and I've been massively busy with grad school, it's a lot harder for me to go. Now that I'm done for the term, I decided to hang out with her before I leave for vacation. I asked if we could go somewhere I could actually afford (i.e., not spending $60 to fill my stomach!) and actually had food larger than a poker chip. I didn't feel like dining at some stuffy high end restaurant where I would be afraid to eat (She eats out every single day as if she gets paid to do it, so check out her blog dedicated to food and fine dining). She's such a food junkie! (please check it out and click the ads too :). The funny thing is, she would never spend the amount of money I spend on clothes or home decor, but I would never in a million years spend the thousands she does on bags and food. While I love food, I wouldn't eat at a place where one plate of food could buy a family of four a whole month's worth of groceries.
So, before heading down to eat, I checked out the stores in search of shoes and some clothes. I told her to stop me from entering Banana Republic, etc cause I'd end up spending way too much on crap I don't need (and I need to save!). So she was pretty good at stopping me, but I still ended up buying a blouse at Arden B. Luckily it was on sale and my logic was that it would be used for my professional wardrobe. We also went to ALDOs and a couple of other shoe stores, but they didn't have my size. I was very sad. The lady offered ordering the shoes and having them delivered at my house, but dude when I buy shoes I want them now. I don't want to wait! Plus I wouldn't be home by the time they get delivered anyway. I guess I'm going to Santa Monica tomorrow to find shoes. After the shoes we headed over to Bath and Body since I was running low on lotion and soap for the bathroom. They were having a sale for the soap 3x 10 and a free Bigelow lip tint (love it). So I stocked up on some B&B soap and lotion. :) Love cucumber melon and vanilla sugar.
After shopping, we headed over to buy some DS games (seems like every guy we met today asked what school we came from) and on to the Korean BBQ place Cham Sut Gol Korean BBQ Restaurant. We got to fry our own meat which was pretty nice. They actually had decent service (and the maître d' was actually pretty cute). It was all you can eat and only $21 with tax and tip :). We stayed there a long time too. I had so much different kinds of bbq and all these side dishes. Very tasty. I didn't try the kimche, but I don't think I ever will like it. Pickled veggies over than cucumbers gross me out. After we had our fill, we went to Mochilato, a very cute Japanese gelato house with mochi ice cream and Japanese desserts and pastries. Ironically owned by Koreans with Chinese servers. It doesn't matter. The only people I saw there were Asian anyway.
I had the creme brulet gelato in a waffle cone and tiramisu it was nice and creamy, but I prefer the Ben & Jerry's Creme brulet), hazel nut and creme brulet mochi ice cream. It was a nice way to balance out all the bbq we ate. The mochi comes up to about $1.50 per piece. I actually don't remember how much exactly. I just pointed and said "I want that, that, that, and that with that" and gave them my card. I know I should be more conscious of my spending, but it's kinda hard when you're faced with ice cream! I felt good though. It wasn't more than $10 for 3 pcs of mochi and ice cream in a waffle cone. So granted that's the equivalent of 2 meals at a fast food place, the mochi was worth it :) and there was another cute guy at the counter from UCI. Maybe I'm just stuck with a bunch of white guys that any Asian guy I see looks cute (nah, I have standards and I've seen plenty of ugly and super nerdy Asian guys at UCLA...I guess it's hard to find really smart and cute guys.
While I didn't have meat for almost a month, I didn't feel too guilty about eating so much the bbq cause I had some of the veggies that came with it and had some tea too. All in all it was a nice experience. I had fun. I swear, whenever I'm with her, it takes over 2 hours to just get in my car and drive home. The "good-bye" process takes that long! haha, in fairness, we hardly see each other and this time it was a lot quicker. I think cause I really needed to go pee and didn't want to use any public restroom :P. Luckily I had no school crap due (which suddenly did enter my mind as we were grilling meat at the bbq house--sad I know). Now I'm kinda tired and need to go to church in a few hours. I guess I'll go to St. Augustines instead and start cooking some pancit for tomorrow's party. Man I'm tired. Thanks "Kat" for hanging out.
