Griffith Observatory

I've been so busy these past few days looking for a new place and mananging my work and life in general that I haven't been able to keep up with my posts :\ but anyway. We went to the observatory on Friday as opposed to shopping (which I still need to do D:). On the way we tried to use Tom Tom to get to the post office to pick up an overdue package (I still don't get why you thought it was near downtown >_>). Anyway, after getting some subs to eat, we head up to Griffith and getting slightly lost on the way. We finally give up on Tom2x and I tell Art to ask the ranger. He gets out and asks a lady ranger and a few seconds later, another Asian guy walks up to them. I am sitting in the car watching all of this unfold. Then I see the Asian guy begin talking to Art and hands are flailing everywhere and pencil and paper is being exchanged. I think to myself, "You can't be serious." So Art gets in and apparently the other guy was also lost using his GPS. What is up with Asian guys and poor sense of direction? :P

Anyway, we finally get there and it is beautiful outside. The sky is super clear and blue and the sun is bright. It is slightly chilly, but nice. We decide to eat on the patio until a bee comes out of nowhere and tries to attach Art's food. Both being mortified by a potential sting, we head to the indoor eating area and finish our lunch. After a bit of talking (another one of those learning experiences), we walk around the observatory and see the city of Los Angeles from atop of the mountain. It so nice even with the bit of haze. We soon move inside and see a periodic table with all the elements inside. It's very cool :) Of course he just had to point out there is an elements named after Berkeley and not UCLA (hey, it's only a matter of time we get one. Our school is better than yours! :P). We check out the place and check out the sun in it's different phases, gases, and effects on the earth. We later find out that there is a planetarium in the place and I am super excited. I've always wanted to go to the observatory since they remodeled it and the fact that there was a planetarium in it made it even better. I couldn't wait! Oh and we used our "student" discount! :P That was a good $4 saved. lol.

When we got in, it took me back to high school and I just wanted to sleep there. I love planetariums. I also applaud the voice actor/host of the presentation. It was a good 30min at least of non stop talking all done live in coordination with the visuals. I almost thought it was recorded, but she was very professional and did not break a sweat. I was very impressed.

As night fell, the city lit up with lights and the view was even more spectacular. It was freezing though and I blame Art for my chills since he said I was lame for even wearing a wool pea coat in California. I say screw that! I am cold and I don't care if I wear a wool coat with a scarf and beanie in LA! At least I'm not freezing :P So we decide to call it a night and head off to eat. We talk about Jon and Kate + 8---our favorite show! on the way to Mimi's. The food was excellent and comforting. I wish I had room for dessert though. Now I want to check our Mimi's in Ventura since I had such a nice experience over there.

We headed home and I uploaded the pictures. I think they're pretty good considering I didn't take that many. We really wanted to stay up there and watch the meteor shower, but we weren't sure what time it was, so we decided to just go home. That would have been nice though. I remember the last meteor shower I saw was during my senior year. I watched with Teresa, Daren, Henry, Jen, Hui, and two other girls (I forgot their names :P). It was 3am and we all had finals due. We walked up to the roof of our apartment complex and decided to lay down with all our heads together and look up at the sky. It was the best feeling and I'll never forget it. I told Art and he said he saw the same shower somewhere in Valencia. It's comforting to know we were looking at the sky around the same time so many years ago :) kind of like An American Tale! Awww.

Two weeks later I've posted the pictures. I appreciate your patience. I highly recommend going there if you have a chance. Definitely see the planetarium too, and if you decide to go during December, have a picnic and bring some food and warm jacket. It's definitely beautiful up there. Just don't rely on Tom Tom.
