PS3 and Gaming Up a Notch
Yes today they've distributed a couple thousand (400k), yes thousand PS3s out in the US today and thus far they've sold for $14,001 on Ebay. How sad. I really am annoyed with Sony for causing such hype for this console and then offering a very limited amount for the level of demand for this $500-600 piece of work. I, myself grew up on Nintendo. My dad bought me an Atari when it came out, I owned a NES, SNES and my sibs have the PS (first and second generation), PS2 (first and second generation), and Game Cube. In terms of hand helds, we have the gameboy color, game boy advance sp, nintendo ds, nintendo ds (white). We back off the PSP and all Microsoft games. I have no idea if they're planning to buy the PS3, but I know they're going to wait if that is the case. I'm actually looking forward to the Nintendo Wi. Looks cute (like an ipod and their DS), compact and a heckofalot cheaper than the PS3 ($250) with also tons more games. So Sony needs to shape up. Lots of angry gamers who want their PS3 and have no access to any o__o.
Anyway my bro is an avid Sony supporter. It's funny how much he defends the awesomeness of this console. I used to be a "gamer" I guess, but after college I just lost time and interest to invest in gaming. It really sucks up a lot of your time and it's not really fun when you're playing alone. Also I've realized that a lot of the games out right now are much more complicated, violent, and just disengaging. I'm very turned off with the GTO games. My brother loves it. I think they're boring and yes I find them distastefully done. Not to sound like hippie or anything, but his game does go so far as to suggest rape+murder. You don't even have to mention glorifying gang violence and organized crime. I don't care too much for that, but rape+murder is where I draw the line.
I guess I prefer the oldschool games (NES, SNES and PS1 games) and more of a communal approach that Nintendo championed in their consoles. The new consoles out now are primarily for one player. So what's the point of having friends over to play? They'll just sit with their jaws open watching you shoot people. "great". So now they're out with online gaming through FPS so there's more of a community there, but primarily with strangers. Why can't they release or make something more interactive and fun for a group of friends hanging out outside of lame sports games and online fps games? The only ones I can think of are DDR type games. Well the Wii is rereleasing all their old titles for the console so I'm looking forward to that. Also, true to old Nintendo fashion, the Wii actually comes with a full game ^^. That's what I loved about my SNES. They came with games :D so you neededn't shell out $50 more bucks to actually use your console. The only problem with Nintendo over the years was probably the bulky clunkyness of their console. The market they dominated was the younger age group with their bright graphics and multiplayer games.
Sony was alot sleeker and targeted teenagers with their one player games, RPGs (role playing games) and platformers. Microsoft produced somewhat of a mini computer that's all bulk and sports/fps (first person shooters)--which I could care less about. The Xbox 360 supporters are primarily in this consort. I guess my sis will be getting a Wii. I know my cousin is sleeping over on Sunday cause the Wii is being released at midnight and he took off work to play all day at my house >_>
