I never knew Kanye would be an overnight meme sensation

I guess that's all it takes these days. So, if you've been living under a rock, or probably had better things to do (like me at the time), then you probably didn't know or even care who Kanye West was (or why he's even more popular right now). Well grad school does that to me. All of a sudden, I'm seeing all these ridiculous "I'mma let you finish, but" and Kanye remarks and I've had enough. I had to see what the hell this was all about. Sure enough about two days ago? He did something even more stupid on stage and took the mic away from an MTV video music awardee at the moment (Taylor Swift, 19 year old country/pop singer), and basically did a jerk move by saying someone else was better and deserved the award (Beyonce). Now of course she couldn't continue speaking after that. Poor girl. I never liked Kanye West to begin with. He's very cocky and I don't even know his music. Now, I know many people did like him, but now, I think his conduct pissed off a lot of people including the African American community. I think it embarassed his fans and rightfully so. What he did was, as everyone's been saying, disrespectful.

What makes it even more sad is that Taylor Swift is a seemingly very humble and sugary sweet girl. I don't know how she really is, but her music is strangely catchy (if you can't get away from the Disney crowed). I didn't know who she really was apart from name dropping on the radio and TV and the occasional air play at Best Boy or Target. But anyway, it didn't help Kanye to have one of his own, Beyonce, come up to accept an award and give a chance for Taylor to finish her "moment". I don't like Beyonce that much either, but for her to give Taylor that chance was a really good move on her part, her career. Whether or not it was a genuine gesture or if it was something she felt obligated to do probably doesn't matter. It just makes Kanya look even more like the jerk he is.

Now I've got that out of my system, I need to go to work. Finish Kanya off Keyboard cat!

Crepe Nazi, sushi, Yogurtland, and Pho Show

Today bebeh and I went to Overland and Sawtelle at Nijiya market to buy some Japanese food. We had some toro giri, yakisoba, and some futomaki. It was delicious. Bebeh also bought some mango juice. I would definitely go back to Nijia for their random foods. We also walked around the crepe Nazi's place. He had a nice welcoming sign on his door. The man is so antisocial. A small Asian girl went in the store to ask a simple question about the food and she came out a little scared. I don't know why I find it funny.

Here's some signs plastered all over the little Nazi's place.

Don't mess with the Crepe Nazi, or your face will get plastered!

We also had Yogurtland yogurt. It was hotter in the store than the outside. Today was actually one of the coolest days in the past week. I've never blasted my AC on so much in the car and my apartment. Anyway, we had pistachio, nilla wafer, pomegranate, taro, nutter butter, and bananas fosters. For topping (which we put on the bottom to avoid falling), we had the usual strawberry, kiwi, mochi, and lychee :) we got really full and the whole thing was under $5! Damn cheap froyo. While it is dirt cheap compared to Pinkberry, Red Mango, Cefiore and even Tuttifrutti, I still prefer Red Mango and Tutti Frutti. I don't know why this place has rave reviews. The only thing I could think of is it's close enough to UCLA that people will drive for it. Red Mango may be more expensive, but the quality of the yogurt seems a lot better. I do give them props for having good water with floating strawberries, and the biodegradable cute spoons. As for the actual yogurt, I've had way better. Sorry yelpers, you let me down.

By dinner time Bebeh and I decided we wanted something less heavy, so we went for some Pho. We originally set to go to Gabby's on Venice, but it was closed being Sunday. So, we went Pho instead. I ordered my usual Vermicelli with bbq beef and bebeh ordered his usual pho with everything. We finish and we're full happy campers. Now all I have to do is study *sigh*

Mango no mo'

The past few days have been pretty warm here in SoCal in part due to the fires around Angeles National Forest. So after a brief attempt to study, bebeh and I decide to cool off with some frozen yogurt after eating so much Italian food at Maria's.

We head down to Venice Blvd at our regular froyo spot, Red Mango and much to our dismay, it wasn't there anymore :( It disappeared so suddenly. It wasn't that long ago we had yogurt there either. Maybe in July? I even had some with Cris before summer break. Now my beautiful creamy yogurt place is no more :( and I am really sad. So, since that was gone, we end up at Westsubs, our regular boba joint. They have awesome boba, free wifi with purchase, decent wraps, teas, coffee, and ice cream. They have a really small but cute and trendy sitting area with games and mags at your disposal. So I get a cantaloupe slush and bebeh gets lychee slush. YUM. But I'm still sad that Red Mango is no longer a block away from my place :( The next best and nearest thing is Yogigo to the east, about two blocks away, and Yogurtland, a self-serve yogurt place that many seem to prefer. Well, bebeh and I will try that place I guess, but our quiet secret spot next to Coffee Bean is gone.
The sad thing is, this isn't the only regular place that closed down over the summer. The other was Coco's on Pico, our breakfast place. That's the thing about living in the west side of Los Angeles, many places don't last, many businesses go under in the blink of an eye even though they were good. Please don't take Westsubs away from me! That place is the only safe haven I have on the West side.
