Berries and Fish

-Updated 07.06.09-

On Sunday, Bebeh and I went t
o Oxnard for the Strawberry Festival and also met my parents *gasp* and friends. He had a philly cheese steak and I had cajun chicken bbq. We also got garlic fries and Eric got a hot dog. We ate strawberry nachos and strawberry funnel cake. Bebeh also had strawberry beer and I had strawberry wine. The strawberries were very sweet. Unfortunately we didn't take any home cause it would spoil too quick. Suzy and Carlos met us there and had their share of sweets. I think Carlos was overwhelmed with all the food. :)

Just to update my post on the strawberry festival, my friend just sent me the pictures from her camera, so here they are :)

The day was nice. It was overcast, but still hot and a lot of people. The Festival was arranged a bit nicer this year. I also met up with Kathleen and her friends as well. Suzy, Carlos, Kathleen and her friends all bou
ght ear cuffs (earrings, but in cuff form). After stuffing ourselves and tanning, Bebeh, Eric and I went to Gof N' Stuff. Eric won (no surprise) and Bebeh came second. I totally screwed up two holes where I just kept missing, so Bebeh beat me by 5 strokes >_<>

The next day, Bebeh and I walked over to Crazy Fish in Beverly Hills for some Japanese food. The sushi was pretty good, but everything else was "meh". Our server was some white dude with curly hair. He was a sorry excuse for a server. Did not smile, did not ask us how we were doing or if we enjoyed the food, did not bother to refill our glasses with water, did not even look us in the eye when passing. Nothing. I could understand if he was having a bad day or a long day, but dude, the place just opened and he kept on passing us by for other people. Definitely bad service. The only Japanese people there were the two sushi chefs at the bar. The rest of the workers were white or Hispanic. The white guys definitely sucked in service. Their salad was bitter, the teriyaki chicen was so so, sesame chicken was ok. the sushi was decent and huge. Personally, I prefer them bite size the way sushi is supposed to be. So, if you're in Beverly Hills and are up for fusion sushi, I do not recommend Crazy Fish. There are tons of other places with better ambiance, better service, and better sushi (i.e., Miru 8691 even though it is Korean owned and operated).

After feeling stuffed, bebeh and I walked to Rodeo Drive and window shopped. It's not like I could really afford anything in those places, but it was nice to see the many tourists clicking their cameras away. I wish I had my camera at the festival and the sushi place. All I could muster were two pictures The back of Crazy Fish and the Crazy Fish roll after Bebeh ate a piece. I was too hungry to whip out my phone to take a picture of the tempura/sesame chicken bentou and the sushi/teriyaki bentou. The Strawberry Festival picture is courtesy of Beano. Future pictures will come from Suzy's camera :)

Lastly, I was sifting through my old desk top today and found a print screen of The Birth of Venus on Art.com's artPad. Since the browser crashed that time, I never had a chance to save my work, so I decided to try it again today. Here is what I ended up with.

The Call

Yesterday while I was taking a shower, my district supervisor called me a little past 6pm and left a voice mail message. When I got the call asking me to call back, I had just got home from an ADOS training session. I was one of the people responsible for helping the program move along. I don't think I'll ever do something like that again without at least two other people helping me. My field supervisor was supposed to come to the training, but one of the specialists came instead. I thought she called to inquire about that. Then I thought, that would be pretty slim since she had no way of knowing I would be manning the ADOS.

So she tells me to call after 2pm on Saturday and I call around 3:30pm. I'm in. After the long and agonizing wait and packet making, I MADE IT. It felt sooooo good. I was jumping and squealing up and down after I got off the phone with my supervisor. I am still in disbelief, but I'm so blessed to have such a great opportunity. LAUSD was my first choice, paid or un paid. This is where I plan to work in the future regardless of the budget cuts and crisis. If I can make it in LA, I can make it anywhere. I am so glad to have all of that put behind me. Now all I need is to sign the dotted line. Our super at C/W is awesome, and I will say that again. Only so many people will give their personal cell phones to their interns and practicum students and allow you to call her during her family time. She's great and I look forward to being trained by her again this coming internship year. :)
